Re: 4 Door Concept

Hey Eric, Is this a surprise or were you sort of expecting it? Keep us in the loop buddy! I was sort of expecting it, but not until much later. I was initially expecting some time late next year but the findings came back as pretty clear so they're expediting things. I should be back in TN before T...

Re: 4 Door Concept

I'm going to have to put the build on hold.

I'm in the process of getting medically retired from the military and i won't be going back to Tn until later this year.

Once i get back i'll start on the build and post my progress with lots of pics.

Re: 4 Door Concept

All right then, you guys have me thinking. I think i'm going to go with the 4 door, short bed version. And i think i'm going to ditch the portal axles because of their expense and maintenance difficulties. I'm going to pass on getting the Humvee shell and go with straight axles instead. Through my u...

Re: 4 Door Concept

Anything is possible... All you need is time, money and skill or the money to hire the skill. I thought about using a HMMWV frame for your truck, but didn't say anything because I thought it might just muddy up the works. But an independant suspension of the HMMWV would make an interesting truck. B...

Re: 4 Door Concept

Well i gave been bending everyones ear i can find about my 4 door concept. I just talked to a guy here a the vehicle shop on base and he told me i could buy an old military Humvee shell cheaper than i could buy those portal axles. He said there would be a lot of chopping and welding involded but it ...

Re: 4 Door Concept

A friend of mine that is going to be helping with the build said i could also just box in the rear and make it an SUV version. I photochopped some pictures, but i'm not sure about it. I think it looks too much like a heavily modded Jeep JK style vehicle. What do you guys think: SUV Version, 4 Door, ...

Re: 4 Door Concept

I think the short bed looks fly, but the stock bed makes more sense. If you shorten the bed you have what a 4ft bed? Even a cross over truck has a 6ft bed. Again if you use the frame, drive train and motor out of a modern pickup with an extended cab and full 8ft bed. You should have plenty of room ...

Re: 4 Door Concept

Have you read this thread? http://www.g741.org/PHPBB/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3450 Retiredguy is doing a great job using a moder truck frame. A dodge 2500 truck frame with the M37 body on it. Since will have two cabs welded together you might still have to cut the bed down, but maybe not. If you fou...

Re: 4 Door Concept

Welcome aboard Spookymyo! 2 for $700 is a certain bargain-nice find! Your concept truck brought m376x6's truck to mind with it's twin rear axles-you'd definitely have the only one in your neighborhood. I'd love to find an M151a2 as I drove one for 16 months at Ft Ord in ''77-'78.... Again, welcome!...

Re: 4 Door Concept

If you want you can come down to El PAso and look at my Dana 60 axle conversion. My axle conversion is done but the truck isn't You know that would actually be good. I would love to see the axle and also take some measurements of your M 37 and some pictures too if thats possible. I won't be getting...

Re: Title a vehicle in TN with only a bill of sale?

You guys should join the MVPA. They have all the info you could ever need on registering, insuring, and titling all kinds of militray vehicles. There's a whole lot more benefits too.

Re: 4 Door Concept

If your going to spend that much money for axles then maybe you should give thought to coil spring set up instead of leaf springs? Just a thought. My other question ...can you get parts for those axles, bearings, brake parts etc from the local parts store or will you have to order them from the com...

Re: 4 Door Concept

I HAVE NOT SEEN A UNIMOG WITH DRUM BRAKES. MAYBE BOTH STYLES ARE AVAILABLE? When i was looking into getting a Mog i was looking at a 404 and they had drum brakes. Dynatrac shows them as having drum brakes also (look in the table): http://www.dynatrac.com/products/axles/portals.html I'll be going wi...

Re: 4 Door Concept

I'm already looking into getting a custom soft top...i think i'm going to just make a hard top for it. The cost of a custom soft top is WAY to hi, anywhere from $900 - $2400!!! I'm still not sure on the motor but i was thinking on a Mopar 6.1L Hemi, GM HT502, or even an LS3. I'll be going with port...

Re: 4 Door Concept

Nice catch!! The 4-door has been done, but your concept seems well thought out, albeit a bit expensive and mod heavy. I can hardly wait to see it! It's not going to be as expensive as you might think, I have pretty much unlimited access to a good sized junk yard. I've already scavenged the seats fr...
