We are now offering gear reduction starters for the M37, T-245 engine. Turns the engine much faster than the original, is built on a tried and true platform with a proven record of longevity and trouble free service. Available in the original 24-volt version or a 12-volt version for those who have or wish to convert to a 12-volt system. We have used these on several of ours and have been impressed.

I am so used to the fast spin of modern starters, like others who drive these trucks, I am amazed that the slow cranking of my engine actually pulls the correct air-fuel mixture into the chambers, and has enough oomph to send a spark hot enough to fire it. I have to think that a more rapid engine cranking would make our trucks light off more quickly, especially if other ignition components were marginal. I plan to drive my truck up to his place soon, to have him bring my steering back into spec, and will inquire about this starter then. My wife is getting a big "cranky" herself with my restoration purchases right now, though.

I'm always surprised at how slowly mine cranks over and still starts, when it's -10F and not plugged in. got to be real careful and not let it idle too high as it warms up or it'll try and push oil out the top of the oil filter canister. I'll be switching to synthetic oil next winter
