Is there a difference in the syncros for the early and late model np420 trans?
Thanks,

Yes Ct there is . From what I was told the early model (88950) and later model (NP420) as a unit are interchangeable. But the insides are not, they are totally Different and are not interchangeable...You can double check with the site below. Also from what I understand a NP420 transmission out of a Civi Power Wagon will not fit in our trucks.

Sal,
Thanks, I saw a set on ebay and was trying to find out if they would fit my old trans. Just looking at future replacement parts. The ebay ones are for the late model.

I Know I seen them also. If your interested AB Linn has a set of gears for the early transmission. But No syncros.

For a couple of years, I was collecting early transmission (88950) parts, but I never did find any synchros. Unless you're doing a restoration for as-built accuracy, the later NP420 is a better transmission, and parts are more readily available. A lot of the first generation M37s apparently received NP420s when their 88950s failed, so an NP420 in a 1954 or earlier M37 would not have been unusual while still in service.
