Does anyone have a picture or diagram of the Bracket that is used to mount the Black out brake light on the right side rear of the M37 and M101 trailer ?

My mistake.

Sal, I wasnt aware that our trucks used that type of BO light. That looks like the Jeep front BO lamp.
The blackout/convoy lamp that I had was of the same shape and size as the brake/driving lamp.

And as such the bracket to hold it is the stock bracket.

The one on my truck was made up by the Maryland National Guard DSGS unit I used to belong to for use when they were adding turn signals to early M37s, it's not stock but it works. The other is USGI for the right side of M37B1s, got this one with the parts buy I made recently.

Stu. I believe that the B/O tail light was eliminated when the Composite lights were installed. I first noticed it on my M37 wiring diagram when I was shooting trouble on my stoplights. It's wire #23B . I also notice on my M101A1 trailer there was 2 holes on the right side on the frame just left of the right side lifting shackle. The Trailer TM shows the light assy some of the pictures. But I cant find the mounting bracket in any of the TM's I have.

Thanks for the pictures Carter they really help. but I think the B/O stop tail light has 2 cats eyes that are red.

Looks like I was wrong again, what I showed was a blackout marker lamp and it's mounting bracket, the blackout stop lamp is in the same housing as the service drive tail and stop lamp.



BO stop light on

On the M37 on the drivers side you would have a brake/tail light lamp and the black out marker light (the four little red quotation marks). Then on the passinger side there would be a lamp housing like the the drivers side but the top lens would be a single quotation mark in white which is the black out stop light and the bottom would be the black out marker light (the four red marks). Now if there was a MWO (or maybe a unit directive) to put two tail/stop lights on the truck and move the black out stop to the bottom or side much like M151A1 were in the 60s then that is possible and the set up that Carter posted could be correct, though I've never seen those myself on a M37. I've either seen the original way or with the composite lamps which have the stop/tail light with the BO marker below that and the BO stop under that. I hope this helps the clear the confussion up a little.

M37B1s have left and right red lights for stop and turn signals and the BO marker lamp is then placed below the right light housing using the bracket shown older ones had them added because of an MWO to upgrade all early trucks lacking them.

The NG unit I was a member operated the state wide repair shop for all equipment and retrofitted signals to their and all other units early M37s. When my truck was run thru Letterkenny Ordnance Depot in the late 60s they added B1 wiring harness and signals but most of the components and nearly everything else was removed from the truck when a local govt. who had a doz. surplus Dodges stripped many items from several parts trucks to keep the fleet on the road.

Thanks K8 I seen the wiring diagram for the older trucks with the one stop light on the drivers side and understand what your saying. I rewired my truck with a harness from vintage wiring with directional's and the schematic that came with it shows a separate B/O light assy on the right hand side. It must be a B1 harness

Carter, I have never seen aspect like the one in the last pictures you posted with the red lower cats eyes (quotation marks) I have seen ones with a upper red lens and lower white quotation marks. I had composites on my truck when I got it but changed over to old style lights with gamma goat style tail light doors. The pictures you posted of the brackets is just what I needed.

M37's came with the standard early M series pair of rear lamps. Round and one with the service red lens and one without. When these trucks had turn signals added in the field they removed the original right tail light assy and replaced it with a new left hand unit that had the red lens. This new light assy had no BO stop function in it. So the turn signal kits showed how to add the smaller bullet light assy similar to the early M series front marker lamps but with the correct BO stop lens to the right rear side of the truck and the wire for the BO stop was moved to that small lamp. The turn signal kit instructions offered several generic fabricated mounting bracketrs for the new small light assy.

I believe at least the early M37B1 came with the relay box turn signal system with the small add-on BO stop bullet lamp from the factory and the later B1's may have come with composite lights. Edited 09-15-11 in response to a later question.

The early MWO 8-2300-263-20 dated 1963 offered several options for fabricating the piggy back mounting brackets for the small add-on right side BO stop bullet lamp.
