T245 oil pressure relief valve

My new oil pressure relief valve is a spring and piston - the shop manual shows the same part. My T245 doesn't have enough depth for the piston and spring - looks like it had a spring and a ball, but it has been so long I don't remember (and I probably lost the original parts).
What's the story? Two different types?
Thanks,

This may sound like a stupid question but....Since you can't find the old parts, Is the old piston still in the block?
That would sure keep you from installing the new piston and spring.

Yep, turns out the old one was stuck in the block - I thought it had fallen out, but obviously not! I used a screw extractor to get it out.
