Wow! Jules Verne would have been proud. I understand this prototype started to bore into the earth and has not been seen since

That's pretty cool. I've never seen the tractor or car version but I did see the military video a few years back. Thanks for sharing.

Fordson Snowmotor, saw that a while back on SS I think. I've pondered what could be done along those lines with modern materials and technology though sometimes the older, simpler ways work better.

I think that is what they call an "Archimedes' screw" machine? The Russians built an "all terrain" vehicle using screw drive some years ago. I think it performed quite well but for some reason, it never went into mass production.

What a concept. The car with the attached unit was very neat.

The screw drive works well, but there is a lot of wear on the drums.
I understand the Russian (ATV?) was amphibious.( does anyone Know its name or designation?)
I would imagine it would work great on sand, water, gravel, snow, and mud, but don't try to cross a paved road.

The Russian vehicle was a ZIL. Don't know what model, though. Do a google search on "Fordson Snow-Motor" and you'll find some you-tube clips of both the Fordson and the ZIL.
