this is why winch anchors are a good idea, as are spare rear driveshafts...
Camera guy is lucky the tree didn't hold its ground (no pun intended) or he might have been digging cable chards out of his head standing that close to the cable.

Maybe he should have tried backing up a little and then ahead again, I bet that rocking it back and forth a while would have taken him out of that shallow sand pit, specially with 6x6.

Comon sence Should be there But, check out the tires, look like road tires & the tree just a tad small around this guy should have had the tree fall on his head , dont play in stuff you don't no how to get out of , what a Dum Dum.

Yeah, if that was me, I'd have simply tried digging some of the sand away from in front of each wheel, just enough to give the truck a running start. If that failed, then I would have attempted the winch, but I think the sand anchor method would have gone farther than him walking as far as he did, only to attach to a rotten tree.
On a side not, there seems to be more M37 videos posted on youtube these days. Most are of some numbnut in muck up to the running boards, but I still like to watch them. I'd like to see more "M37's in the snow"......I may make a video of my own if I ever get around to buying one of those little flip video recorders. My nephew just got one for Xmas, those things are cool.

Just as an FYI - most evergreens (conifers) don't root very deep into the ground. This is why they blow over fairly easily in a wind storm. If the tree is rooted in sand, (which they like) it will topple over almost as easily as a domino.
Leafy trees (like birch) have roots that penetrate deep into the earth, and make a much better winch anchor. If no mature tree's are available, then wrap the cable around as many clumps of willows as you can - they are virtually impossible to pull out.
All else fails, bury the spare tire and use it as an anchor.
