I having a problem getting the timing back set after I installed the PerTronix Ignitor® Solid-State Ignition Systems MV-161A.
It is 30 degrees off and I can not get it back to TDC. The engine is running, but not idling so well. It drives ok has power.
This is a friend's M37. I am thinking of put the points back in it.
Any ideas would help.

Did you remove the distributor to put the kit in?

It does sound as though the distributor gear is off by a tooth or two.

Thirded on the tooth.

You can dial it back in perfect with a vacuum gauge once the distributor is back in correctly. If you don't have one I recommend getting one and learning to use it. Very handy diagnosis tool.

I did not remove the Distributer, but I do not know the history of the engine.
Good Idea on the tooth, I will check that.
Thanks for the help and input. :)

I will have the pull the oil pump to move the gear one or two teeth right?

Yes. You will have an easier time if you first pull the distributor too so you can look down the hole to see where the slot is pointing, then drop the oil pump just enough to rotate it one tooth. Then replace the distributor, matching it with the new orientation of the slot.
If you don’t pull the distributor it is a pain to get things back together once you rotate the oil pump.
Let us know how it turns out!

I got it running ok now. The distributer was off a tooth or two. Set the timing and set the carb. Good to go now.
I guess when you work on other peoples truck you run into all things, keeps you on your toes.
Thanks for all your help!! :D
