PTO Install

Does the transmission need to come off the truck to install the PTO?

I'm installing a PTO on a non-winch truck, but it's like the PTO is getting hung up on the clutch linkage or something when I try to get it in place.

I put all the studs in the transmission first, but I may try taking them out first I suppose. Any advice from those that have done it already?

Maybe this topic will help: viewtopic.php?t=9773

Basically, it can be done on the truck, but it will likely be easier in the end to remove the transmission and install and set up the gear backlash out of the truck.

Thanks, Elwood.

Thankfully, pulling the transmission on these trucks isn't too big of a deal.

I guess I know what I'm doing tomorrow. :D

I'm glad I took the transmission out of the truck to do this. It would have been a nightmare otherwise.

I have to order some more gaskets, but to anyone out there who is looking to service the PTO or install it: take it out of the truck.
