intake air leaks?

Hello trail ride travellors, And todays question concerns vacuum readings on my M37 . In order to adjust my carb, the book tells me to attach a vacuum guage to the intake manifold. The question is, if I don't reconnect the vent lines to my distributor, will this reduce my intake manifold vacuum reading? ( my engine runs rough )

The vent lines to the distributor have nothing to do with vacuum. They should be connected at all times as their purpose is to cool the distributor internals. Any plug on the intake manifold will work for connecting the guage.
