You will be better off not to use the in tank filter, lots of trouble to get to it when cleaning is needed. An in-line filter is much less of an issue to change & is also a better filter.

We do a lot of them, but leave the in tank filter element out. That way all looks original on the outside & you don't have to open up the port hole for a filter change/cleaning.
I also like an in line filter between the fuel pump & carb inlet. That way if periodic filter clogging occurs a time or 2, it's a pretty safe bet that the pump diaphram is breaking down. Knowing this up front is a huge PLUS so the pump can be rebuilt before gas is dumped into the crankcase.

we used a 151 mutt sender works fine, also have a clear plastic filter with paper element just before the pump, between the fuel shutoff and the pump to be exact

I found one so life is good again, also fixed my errant fuel gauge problem with a different sending unit, all is well. Thanks for the input from all.The in tank pic-up assy. came from a local source and I had a new pic-up tube and filter,so between that one and the filter at the carb I should be in good shape. Thanks again.[/url]
