Floor Board Seals?

We tried to re-assemble the floor boards last night - yikes - you'd guess that they came off a different truck. I imagine that between all the blasting, sealing, and painting, they wandered off be "true" dimensionally. Given the twisting, we could see air underneath the joints. We bought some small closed cell window seal from the Home Depot and installed it near the edge of the openings. It sealed the cracks all the way around versus the sealant that we had seen on the original. Anyone else notice this? Or are we just being too picky?

I'd be careful what you use to seal the floor, originally it was okum or hemp with some tar type stuff, it held water between the joints. One side sticky foam is another bad choice
A better choice would be butyl, similar to what is used on the windscreen and windows, it stays elastic forever almost, Charles might have a better idea?

Hey Bruce - exactly my thoughts. We used a closed cell foam that does not wick water used on window seals. We plan on applying a flexible rust proofing spray to deaden the sound and seal the "seal."

I use GE Silicone sealant II put it on smooth with a body scraper and let it cure like a big fat gasket. Then assemble (but not to thick)

I used 1" x1/8"x25' rolls of rubber from
http://www.unirubber.com/index.htm
which I cut and glue with 3M weather stripping cement to the panels.
They also have the little rubber bumpers for the first aid kit holes.

Rick

I thought of doing that, but lost my nerve, couldn't do it to Dan.
