I bought new brake hoses from the differentials to the frame but they came without the nuts to attach them to the frame brackets. I called VPW and all they can come up with is a "Brake hose union nut to tube connection" P/N CC600970, ORD# 7351300. I am trying to find out if these are the right parts since they are only 1.50 each but shipping will be ten times that! The last thing I need is 15.00 worth of nuts that I don't need. The nuts I need are a 5/8 fine thread and they are fairly thin. The picture in the catalog shows something kind of to that effect but it is a really poor picture. If nobody here can tell me then I will have to ask VPW to actually pull one and tell me if it is a 5/8 hole. I can't believe they don't include that with the line, what are the odds a thin steel nut will still be usable after residing under the bed on top of the differential for 70 years?

I can't find that part in the manuals either, I may not be looking in the right one. I am looking in the -20P right now and I doubt the -34P will show any more detail since it is not an assembly.

Found my answer in the SNLG-502. Stock Number G121-0314548, Nut, Brake Hose (Hex., S., 5/8-18).


VPW could definitely have labeled it better but I think for a buck and a half just add it to the damn order! You KNOW it will be needed!!

you sure they don't do it as a combined kit? - I normally ask for a part and the associated fitments as I too have suffered the receiving shiny new part only to find that I need more shiny parts so have to wait another 4 weeks. Being in the uk that means more post and more tax too ! ... also, nothing on the shelves of UK auto factors seems to fit an M37

And VPW gouges one on the price of nuts and bolts-I had to cough up $5 + shipping for a lone transfer case yoke nut, and that was 10 years ago.

Ben, no, nothing combined. They act like they don'y really know if that is the right nut or not when in fact I am sure they know it. They probably get the same call after every brake line order.
Cal, you are right there. I am having them send it to me by USPS because it is the cheapest possible route even though they tell me it may take a week before it even leaves their place that way.

P/N or description? I go in there and tell them I need the nut for a brake hose on a 53 M37 and all you will hear is crickets. Or they will send me to the Help rack. They ALWAYS sent you to the Help rack when they are lost.

These nuts are not manufactured and available thru commercial outlets. MWM had them made specially for this application. Almost all dealers sell the parts separately. We do as well. Shipping with us is what ever the post office charges for these small parcels.

Those look the same as what was used on all the real Power Wagons (WDX, WM300, eTc).

That might be in the cross-over lists, but I've never had to use a new one...a little bead blast and paint, good to go. They aren't that thin.

When I was sent the wrong tie rod ends to the UK and then had to get them to send right ones I had to spend another $70 !! .. plus another $50 to send back the wrong ones

Ouch! That is unfortunate, Ben. Ironically I've worked with VPW on a number of orders and have met some of their staff-always courteous and friendly; however exorbitant with some nickel/dime stuff. They sent me the correct spring bolts after I returned the incorrect ones they originally sent at no charge. John with Midwest Military is just as gracious-sent me the correct rear bumperette after I ordered the wrong one years ago- again, no charge. That's who John really is-looking out for us and our hobby, often at his own expense. I am privileged to have met him at two MVPA Nationals and order my parts from him whenever possible.

I get that everyone is out to save a buck. Thing is, if you do not support those who support this hobby, you will find that they will be gone. There are really 2 full service Dodge dealers left in the USA. Midwest Military and Vintage Power Wagons. I have a great working relationship with VPW. If the folks who own these trucks do not support us, then we can no longer invest in new parts, or purchase inventories to keep supporting this hobby. VPW and I charge a nominal profit so that we can re-invest. No profit, no new items. Just something to think about. This hobby is getting smaller. How much smaller do you want it to get?

Your points are well-taken, John and I fully agree with you.
I'll go a step further and mention that it is our individual and collective responsibility to recruit new members to the HMV hobby or it will indeed, dry up as we age out (because we just can't stop TIME).
