Rear Axle Drive Gear Thrust Screw

Since I am starting getting my rear differential back together I tackled the Rear Axle Drive Gear Thrust Screw and Nut.

Geeze who ever set the screw depth put a whopper of a weld on the screw and nut to hold them in place. I got it out and the nut separated but 90% of the exposed threads along the length of the screw where the weld is are all covered in weld.

I am getting a new screw and nut. My question is can I just use red lock tight on this to hold it or do I have to do a wield again? (If I do my weld will be a spot, just enough to hold it.)

I have never seen any civvy or military that were not welded. The reason they weld it is because when someone goes to check the gear oil they dont mistakenly take that out instead of fill plug. if they do the thrust block falls into the gear oil..... then you have to pull diff to get it out. no fun. I have never had to adjust any. only rebuilt a handful of diffs tho. I lucked out and they were in spec when re assembled
I would re-weld it
