Battery Question

I need to buy batteries for my vehicle. The ones that were in it when I bought it are marine type but I can't read any of the info on the tags. Also trying charging them but they are shot. What batteries are you guys using? I slaved in my fully charged mutt batteries but they will barely turn the motor over. I figure they are just too small. Anyone have a civilian part number handy?

Doesn't the M37 use the 2HNs just like a M151 or a M38 etc would use? Or did they use the 6TLs... I don't know that is why I'm asking. Because if it used the 2HN your 151 should have cranked it over. But then again I don't think I've ever heard a M37 spin fast....they all seem to have a natural slow spin when cranking.

2HNs were the standard battery (Civilian is 22snf which are hard to find 22nf is easier to find but the terminals are reversed ( I have used them for years.
The length of the slave cables will create some voltage drop but I would first check the ground of your slave receptacle...mine was heavily corroded.

Well it seems that all the posts so far are in terms of retaining originality, or close to it. May I propose the reenactor view, which is to use ULTIMA red tops. If you are not familiar with them, they are on line and available for your consideration. They are "jelly" batteries and are rated at 1000 cranking amps. I guess I never would win enough points at a militray truck compition restoration show, but I will start in the worst situations in the field.
