swap in '01 Dana 60/70?

There is a set of .354 60/70 (all disc) axles from an '01 (Cummins) 2500 for sale near me. I was planning on swapping in a '77 Dana 44/60 set and then saw this ad.
Thoughts, opinions, please! I'm sure someone on here has done or thought of doing this. Thanks in advance............

They are wider and where are the pumpkins? Depends on how good you are at fab and scrounge what success you will have with the swap.

Here are more details...
It is actually a roller - 2001 Dodge 2500 Dana 70 rear, Dana 60 front. Was previously a Diesel and is Disc on all 4 corners. Has front coils that may be a problem.
Hope this image can be seen.

I wouldn't worry about the coils. You are going to be cutting off all that bracketry and welding on new. You are going to need to narrow the housings or run a severe reverse offset wheel. You will need to fab steering to mate the two.
Can't see much with that picture, but they are going to be similar to what's under my D250. Again, it all depends on your your abilities and wallet. Keep us posted on how the project progresses.

Yup, that's the only photo available at this time. The package price is stupid cheap but I didn't want to go through the hassle just to end up selling the parts.
I know there are some on here that don't care much for anything other than bone stock - and I respect that. (My '52 PW is going to be just that).
But this one needs to be a 4 season "do it all' type of rig. Able to navigate the nasty Maine winters AND hit I-95 with wheelers on the trailer.

Probably will do a Build blog of sorts complete with photos and such. I possess SOME skills for sure and my Father-In-Law (and partner in crime) is a retired marine industry fabricator.
I have all kinds of confidence in his ability. Should be a cool truck when finished.

I think the biggest problem will be the drive of the front axle. In the mid 90's when Dodge changed the body style to what I call the throwback power wagon look they also changed the drive line and the front diff went from passenger side to driver side. Which means on your M37 you would have to change your transfer case to be to drivers side drop from the current passengers side drop. I have done the Dana 44f/60 swap on my truck. You need to modify the front passenger side leaf spring to make the axle fit under the truck. With the drivers side I'm not sure what you would need to do to make it fit into place.

Good luck with it.

Agree with previous posts. The 44/60 swap is relatively simple. I just swapped from an 89 truck into mine. The rear requires the perches relocated. The front requires the passenger side spring outboarded 1-1/2"

I'm seriously considering a resto-mod on this M37 as it has already been converted to small block chevy engine and trans.
Would be changed out for a Dana 70/60 with (shortened) '01 frame, 318 with A518 od trans and 241dhd transfer.

I have a Dana 60 rear from a '76 D200 but a matching Dana 44 front has been difficult to source up here (unless I want to start ripping one of my M886s apart)

I know a lot of the people on here like the idea of original but this one has already been dallied with.

A 1969 Ford SWB 4X4 F250 is only one inch different wheelbase. Maybe find one and do a body swap.

Lylebailey1,
You can use basically any axle combo you want. If you got a good deal on the 01 Dodge axles go for it, but just remember you will need to then change the transfercase to drivers side front. Heck you can use a Dana 60 Corp 14 bolt out of a Chevy truck if you want. As for the Dodge Dana 44F any 1976-80 Dodge W200 truck will work. Mine are out of a 79, but yes they are the same as the M880 series trucks.

Don't worry about modifying the truck. It's your truck fix it the way you want it. The truck I'm slowly working on would for all intent and purpose would have been a parts truck, so instead of it being broken into parts I will someday give it new life as a modified truck. No worries.
