There are two holes in the rear crossmember just inboard of the bumperettes spaced up and down. there are on both sides, and I have seen many photos of them- never anything attached to them. Anyone know what they are for?

That's odd, my encabulator is mechanically supercharged and requires a LOT more attachment points.

Well, these truck wer under powered so the utilized excess ion ultribulation to reverse bias the fernortner reflux and therefore it was a much smaller package.

The only thing I can actually come up with is that they may have originally planned a larger adaptor plate for the pintle.

Agree with above, my own M 42 is pretty much as built, less radio's, and of course has these four holes, see in the picture. I suspect that in the development of the original spec's for the truck, there was some plan to fit something to the rear of the truck, a support, brace, bumper, a tow hook adaption perhaps? And whatever it was, it was never made standard, and the spec for the four holes just was never removed.

Finally, I have recovered enough from my knee replacement, to begin my own truck's restoration. I am going to drive it over to the Ft. Jackson auto craft shop, where they have bays and lifts and two paint booths, and tools and experience for me to use. For the past several months, I have been ordering this and that part, so the boxes have piled up in my garage. I am going to remove the bed early on, so I can more easily prep the frame, and replace the brake lines, and fuel lines, using fuel injection hoses. A leak here and there, new front wheel bearings, snug up the steering, then on to the cosmetics. Yesterday my wife asked what was up with my credit card bill.

here is a picture of the four hole rear of the truck.

J, the four holes just inboard of the bumpers are the one's in question. Who knows. Whoever drew up the plans for these vehicles is I am sure long gone by now. I wonder if they are there for some sort of reinforcing plate for the pintle, later found to not necessary.

I believe the 4 holes are for a rear step on m43 ambulances.

I knew which holes they were questioning, just being facetious.

In Nam Vets pic there are two small horizontal holes on each side- about 1/4", that's the ones I was referring to!
