After looking numerous times, I cannot find anything resembling a timing mark on my pulley. Is there a way to determine TDC for piston 1 without removing the head?

Find TDC on 5. There is a port for that. The timing mark s faint. I used a scotchbrite pad to polish the pulley and find the marks.

above No 6 is a 1/4in pipe plug. 1 and 6 are mirrored. td on #6 = td on #1. if no marks can be seen, mark td center . you will be looking for 2-4degreas btdc so not far past the tdc mark. if she doesn't want to easily pull past 36mph on the speedo she is too advanced.

The plug is over 6? Makes sense. I didn't go out and look. I do know the marks are faint on the wheel and it wasn't until I polished the rim of tthe pulley that I could see it. In the end, I set it to spec and then adjusted 2 degrees at a time until road testing showed it to perform best.

Etched on the edge. But not deeply.

Don't be surprised if there's no marks at all. The truck we worked on last year had nothing. We set timing with a dial indicator on #6 and some masking tape on the pulley. We moved the piston equal distance to each side of TDC and split the difference for our mark.

I hope you filed a notch there for future reference.
