Sorry for stupid questions.....my manuals are at a friends house. If my stock M37 is surging on acceleration and pinging on hills....do I advance or retard distributor???

Damn, it cost a fortune to fill it up today

Pinging is the result of preignition, which means that your truck is firing too soon. Retard the spark just a bit, and you should notice a difference.
