Looking for a set of new NDT tires for the truck..

Yep, 900-16 is correct for the stock rims.

for that price there is a 10.50 16 that is much taller and better tread design. Wallace Wade sells them they are chevron tread. I had a set way back and loved them. nice to get more top speed.

Well maybe next time. I already bought the set.

Interesting thing, the local Truck & Tractor tire shop won't touch army trucks. The guy told me it was some company rule not to. I asked him if he knew somewhere else I could try and he suggested Les Schwab. Really? The k-Mart of tire shops? I think not! But I called anyway just to do my due diligence.

"Hello, do you instal army truck tires?"

"What kind of army truck?"

"Dodge M37."

"Oh, split keeper rings?"

Huh? He knows about keeper rings? "Yeah, keeper rings.."

"No problem!"

I ended up going down and talking to them. They knew all about doing army truck tires. Even made me order the rubber boots that go on the rim to protect the inner tubes. So, once those arrive I'll have the tires mounted by the local tire shop. How incredibly handy!

I have had les schwab do many over the years. some of their shops have guys with more experience than others so one time they ended up damaging the rings but at least they tried. the Seattle les schwab in the south end is set up better for HD trucks and such and can balance them on the bigger machine. works good.

There's a guy in town here that collects army vehicles. I'm thinking they may have gotten their experience from his stuff.

M37 rims are just split ring rims. they were used on millions of trucks for many decades. Not unique to military. Only difference is the large ring on the Budd/Dodge rims is more HD and locks a little better than standard split rings. It was designed for offroad so as to resist coming apart when the tire goes flat.

So I had all 5 tires replaced. Then I donated my old, still usable, tires to I local near me that has a Bunch of military stuff. He needed something for his Barn Find WC?? Open cab with winch. Not sure of the model. He was very happy about getting tires for the machine.

The interesting thing was the difference in driving the M37 with new tires. WOW! I didn't expect anything would change, but it handles way better, rides way smoother. Has a harder time going up hills 'cause they're taller than the worn out tires. Oh, and the steering turns easier too! I couldn't be happier!

that's great to hear. going faster too! an inch or more worn off radius on the old ones probably cost you 5 MPH on the hiway.
