Does anyone know off a off the shelf shovel that would be correct for the pioneer rack? Shipping would be crazy so hopefully I can buy local.
Thanks,

I went through this exercise about two years ago, and never did find an off-the-shelf commercial shovel that was an exact match, or that was short enough to fit in the pioneer tool rack. The closest I found was a Jackson Pony, but even that one required the wooden shaft to be shortened about 1-1/4 inches to fit.

The original head is wider, flatter, and a bit more round than your typical shovel of today. The closest thing that I found was what's called an irrigation shovel. You have to look closely at any pictures because different manufacturers have different patterns for what they call a "round point" shovel. Some are very flat and others are your typical gardening shovel. Correct ones pop up on fleabay but you have to know the difference.

If my memory serves me correct the books call out an "Ames # 2" shovel.
