has anyone ever slid a 350 in a m37 with a automatic... would i be better off to set the cab on a chevy 4x4 frame.. i know where there is a 86 blazer frame anyone ever went this route... it looks like the blazer frame is shorter.. would prefer to stuff it in the m37 frame but don't want to mess with the stearing box...

I'd be interested in this swap if parts or advice were readily available. I'd like to keep the original transfer case though. I'm looking for a drop in conversion, with adaptors. I don't have the time or experience to custom build a truck like some guys here.

My thoughts on a 350 swap are (a) the 350 will snap the rear axle drive shafts for sure. That can be taken care of with upgrade chromoly axle shafts from Foote Axles.
(b) I suspect that the automatic tranny is too long to fit.
(c) power steering is doable with a Saginaw steering box. Check out Snakeriver 4x4.
(d) if you do a body swap, you will have less expense and a fast rig with a cool body and power steering and brakes. However, if your objective is mostly offroading then you might be better off to keep the M37 body and frame.
Hope this helps and good luck.

the blazer frame and axles would be a downgrade. M37 stuff much tougher. conversion kits for putting in mopar small block I think are still available. I think you lose value when you put the wrong brand of engine in any truck. mopars outlast chevies anyway. ;/)

I have a SBC 350 and Turbo3speed automatic transmission in mine , the rest is stock and have no issues with the truck .
