Hello dug out my engine from under the house after X number of too many years of it sitting there ,and make a start on it ,it is green and i would like to keep Green ,im considering using POR15 Engine paint for it i believe'' BMC Green'' is the closest to it ,after the engine has been cleaned, is there a paint ,treatment, to treat the inside of the water jacket etc in the engine to protect it from further rust and corrosion ?

There's paint some folks use for areas of the block that see lube oil.......it's called Glyptal. The claim is it seals porosity and lets oil flow back to the pan quicker. At least that's the claim..........I'm not a big fan of it, but to each his own. As for the water jacket........you don't want to paint that with anything. First, you don't have access to all the surfaces to ensure they're clean, and some are probably not. Second, without proper surface prep NOTHING would last in the cooling jacket. So anything you try to put in there will come off and foul up your cooling system. Today's coolant contain rust inhibitors, so as long as you don't use straight water you don't have to worry about rust. Galvanic corrosion is still an issue, but not a huge one. If that one bothers you then a sacrificial anode would be the way to go. Don't forget to replace the water distribution tube.....they make them out of brass or galvanized steel now.

I don't have any experience with POR-15 engine paint, so can't comment there. I've used regular POR-15 for a million things and it's never let me down. Let us know how the POR engine paint works out.
