There is a "heavy duty" shackle bracket for the M37 that has a 1/2" thick base instead of the 3/8" on the original. It is also cast from steel instead of iron. It is FSN 2510-973-4188. Does anyone know where to obtain these? Supposedly they started to use them in '62.

Sounds like a good item for MM to reproduce.

You haven't lived till one snaps off whilst using a towbar behind a 5-ton...

I just picked up a pair of what must be the improved version for the rear. One on the truck had been welded and the other was broken. The "new" ones were substantially thicker and also had a P/N in the casting. I suspect when one of those things snaps it must be exciting. At least the bumperettes will slow it down a bit.

I have them on my truck. Best thing about the steel ones is they bend before they snap. ( Don't look at my roadside bracket.)

The brackets he's talking about are the ones on the front of the truck, where the top of the bumper meets the frame rails.............this doesn't apply to the rear shackle mounts.

I put up an extensive thread on this subject a few years back, with all the detail differences between the two. In my case I was looking for the thin original ones for my truck, not the later, better ones. The better ones are easier to find, as I assumed the Army did a good job of retrofitting all their M37s with the better cast steel mounts. I'm sure John at Midwest or VPW has them.
