Nice Truck! Glad to hear that you're going to keep it stock.
Get a set of manuals and start reading. It will be rewarding as you start working on your truck.

Nice truck, are you sure that is a homemade hard top? Looks better than most other homemade ones I have seen. What did it cost?

Glad to be here! Thanks!
I'm 90% sure the top is home made. But Very well done. The original soft top pipe across the back was cut off, and 2 pipes were welded to the windshield frame to support the middle of the roof. The corners and sides are made by slitting and forming tin, then finishing with filler. I'm just not a fan of how it looks, and want to enjoy a convertable truck!
If I can get it off without destroying it, I would offer it up.
$3k
I don't know the history of this truck. Tag says it's a '53. Original winch truck. I need to get some pictures of the rest of the tags. I really didn't get much info from looking at them. I hope yins can help me decode them.
I bought it off a fire department that was going to make a brush truck out of it, but after 3-4 years of sitting on it had second thoughts. It never left their parking lot. They bought it from someone in Ohio, and said they paid over $6k for it back then.

oros35,
The data plates on the glove box are probably original, but tell us the serial number stamped into the frame in the left front wheel well........we can then tell you exactly when it was made.
From your description it sounds like the top was indeed homemade, but looks pretty good in the pics. A complete, clean, straight, running and driving M37 for $3K is a great price......you did good. Even the tailgate is in good shape. Be glad you don't have to find one of those!
regards,
bob

It looks great. I was thinking the same thing about the tail gate.

SN on the frame is the same as the tag. 80250754 Almost gone though, looks like there was a snow plow mount welded to the frame at one point, just barley catches the stamped numbers!
Responsible agency tag says:
Responsible agency - Procurement - Depot Maintenance
Chassis - ORD CORPS - ORD CORPS
Body - ORD CORPS - ORD CORPS
And I can make out this on the tailgate, looks like white stickers/Paint:
US ARMY 438193
Can't see anything on the bumpers. Once I get to painting, I'll sand it down slowly and see if I can find anything.
