Guys, does anyone have a video or a quick run down of the winch operation on the M37?
Its been a while since I used one and a quick refresher by instruction here or a video someone posted would help, and any things to be on the look out for. Thank you.

Only question , when im not using the winch , after I wind it back up and it looks nice, it says to place clutch shifter into engaged to prevent it free spooling. So I should leave it engaged all the time? How do you prevent free spooling?

When I got the truck the idiot I bought it from knew nothing about it. The cable is all over the place on the drum. I want to rewind it and make it look nice, then put a winch cover on it , ill never use it.

Engaged at the winch. NOT at the PTO lever in the cab!

If your truck is stored outdoors, or will spend any considerable amount of time outdoors or even indoors but in high humidity, leave the spool cover off. It will trap moisture and rust the cable.

It will stay in my warm dry garage.

So I leave the clutch engaged at the winch all the time??

Operate the lever a couple times a year if you remember they like to seize up

Leave it engaged. This prevents the drum from unspooling from vibration. Only disengage to quickly pull out cable.

As you are checking out the winch and doing PMCS on your M. You should check the shear pin on the winch to make sure someone did not install a case-hard bolt. Having the wrong shear pin can damage the winch. Order a few extra shear pins from one of the vendors and put in your truck's tool bag. I note that you said the last owner did not re-wind the cable correctly. You can also service the cable with a light coat of oil or grease this will help to keep the rust at bay. Wear gloves and look out for the wild whiskers on the cable.

Roger that. A full PM will be done when I spool it all out.

Half the reason the cable looked bad is because it free spooled because the clutch lever is in the wrong position.
