Hi Guys,

Anybody know where to get the original flat headed steel rivets used to hold the data plates on the glovebox door?? All the ones I've found so far have round heads. They're described in the ORD as "tubular, oval head, WI, black enamel, 9/64 x 1/4, 15/34 head diameter (the 34 must be a typo, I assume it should be 32). These were later superseded by nickel plated rivets, but I'd like to find the original unplated ones if possible. The "WI" in the description stands for Wrought Iron.

I'd start with an aircraft fastener supply house. I doubt they would have them, but I'd be surprised if they didn't know where to either get them or start looking for them.

Just a suggestion, but it would be a place to start your search.

If they are flat headed, then oval head is also a typo.

I call them flat headed because of how they look. I guess technically they're oval headed......but they really are pretty flat.

I check McMaster (I always do), but no tubular rivets with an oval head......all theirs are countersunk.

i picked up some flat solid brass rivets from a hobby shop. i cant remember if they were for O or N scale trains

Odd. Must have stopped stocking them I bought a box years ago from them. Might still have it around somewhere. BTW, they were called escutcheon pins, not rivits when I bought them. We used them to attach the data plates on the plasma cutters we used to manufacture.

I checked McMaster and they do have escutcheon pins, but those are all nails. You probably should know I'm an engineer. If you don't know, engineers are pretty anal about silly little details that most wouldn't even consider. So I'm sure escutcheon pins would work, but to get the correct appearance on the back side of the glove box door they'd have to be tubular rivets that can be rounded over as original. But I do appreciate the info!!

Try Midwest Military or one of the other MV vendors, I believe that were discussed on another site and some said Midwest had them.

Attached file has some rivets I found.

At one of the conventions some years ago, I got some brass rivets from Rapco.
Might be worth a try.
