Have a question on tires. I don't really want run NDT's unless I find a cheap set. If so I can reuse the tubes and flaps?
I've been looking for a set of cheap 16" radials. Do I need radial specific tubes and flaps? Or can I use the existing ones?
And what are the "cheap" bias ply's that people run? They are the aggressive tread, forget the name and was looking through pics but that didn't help.

thanks for the help. My current tires are no good. I think one of them is marked from '54. Still holds air surprisingly.

I have them on my truck. I like the look, and they have been fine off road. However, on slick ice and hard packed snow, they are not nearly as good as the studded snows on my 4runner. I know it is not a fair comparison, but I think they are a snow rated tire just not equal to a studded tire. I have had to lock the front axle on a few occasions to get moving on level ground.

I use STA Super Lugs and I'm happy with them. A little harder to turn for parking, but great on and off road.

So any bias tire I can reuse tube and flap from the NDT's that are on now?

I was told by my tire place that if there tubes are very old, they can form to the tire, and be un-usable on another tire. So If I were you, I'd replace all of the tubes and flaps on new tires...the cost of this isn't that big once you look at the cost of the tires.

I've used them until I wore them out. Good tires, but after moving on to Bf Goodrich all terrains I've discovered they sucked. No comparison with modern radial tires.
The ride, the handling, the wear is a LOT better with the goodrichs.

I'm running the bias ply tires that were on the truck when I bought it. It was an unused fire dept truck, and it still had the fuzzy tire mold pattern on the tires when I bought it. I think I might have these tires for the next ten years at the rate that I wear them down. I am shopping for an identical tire as a spare, and I need a flap and tube. I cannot remember which tire type generated more heat and friction on the tube. I would guess radials due to the sidewall flex, but I could easily have it backwards. Which tube is a thicker and more heat resistant type?

Radial tubes are OK in radial or bias tires. Not so, the other way around.

One might not even be able to buy bias tubes easily today due to that fact.

Using old tubes in other tires is a mixed bag of grief, usually. Unless they are almost new, I wouldn't try it.

Save the old stuff for tire/wheel setups used just for rolling things around the shop, not on the road.

Thanks for the replies. Loks like I'm on the hook for at least new radial flaps and tubes. Having a hard time finding used 16 inch tires in the right size. there are a ton of 265/75/16 but not tall enough. I thought the NDT's were 33" but mine measure slightly taller than 34"
