Hi everyone. Also new M37 owner here. Have read through many posts already and have found a bunch of great information. As I'm on vacation and not at home I don't have the vehicle info to fill out the registration. Will do as soon as home. I learned of this web site through the Steel soldiers web site which I've been a member of for a few years. I have 4 other MVs [M35, M813,M151 and M931] but this is first M37. So it fits perfect with the other play toys. Here is a picture of our new addition. Its the funny green colored one!

Submitted before finishing information. Its a 1953 Air Force M37 with hard top. It runs and stops great. Still it needs some work. Most rust appears in the cab top area with the frame and under carriage in very good condition. Previous owner had many new parts installed to include brakes, fuel tank etc. Hope to have it up and ready to go by next summer.

Glad to see that you joined up on this site. I noticed that you didn't mention that your wife had picked out this truck and that she would be the driver. I must say that she has great taste in classic OD iron.
I know that we all look forward to seeing more pictures of this truck.

Oh yes, my wife did pick this one out. She found it and bought it. We made a very interesting but uneventful trip to New York to pick it up. She has been driving all our MVs but usually drives our M931 to car shows/parade etc and she likes that. She wanted something she could hop into and run to the store/bank/post office etc. Hard to get the M931 through the drive through.

Looks like a great collection and I think the M37 is just what you needed. That your wife is going to drive it is cool too. I do good to get mine to ride in mine. She says the canvas seats stink but I love it....lol. I was a Hornet Marine myself. Work at the engine FST at Jax, FL now on the Super Hornet engine team. (F414 engine)

Thanks and that's cool a hornet mechanic. I was in Marines to but not a hornet mechanic, just a toted radios around LOL and watched them drop bombs. But My favorite modern aircraft is the hornet. And like most Marines who like aircraft my propeller driven favorite is the F4U1 Corsair.
My wife has been driving the M931 to the shows and parades. Now she doesn't know how to drive both. We now have 5 trucks and 4 drivers. Guess going to have to find trailer for that M931.

Welcome aboard. That's a fine looking M37. Very glad to hear about your love for the Corsair! The Goodyear built ones were made close to my old home in Ohio at the Airdock at Akron-Fulton airport. The museum I am associated with up there (http://www.mapsairmuseum.org) has a 95% complete cockpit from an FG. Got to love a 13' 6" prop on the end of that R2800 Pratt. Legend has it when the guys would run out of ammo in the Pacific they would use it to saw the wood horizontals off the Japanese bombers. Enjoy your new truck

Thanks for the link. Really nice looking place. I see they have a F4 Phantom as well, another favorite of mine and one which I saw drop lots of bombs. Noisey, smokey and FAST!!! Really neat the Goodyear models were built near you and you had a museum close by.

My boys and I went to Connecticut a few years ago and saw a about a dozen of them. All flyable. They had an engine on static display as well. Huge engine. It was an awesome sight and probably a chance in a lifetime to see 6-8 of them fly low down the run way all at once. What an awesome sounding engine. Beautiful plane.

Wecome aboard, glad to see another one on the road. Wish my wife was more involved but she will only ride to a cruise in once in a while. I see there are some of us who have more in common in a round about way than our trucks. I worked at GE Aircraft Engines in the development labs and had time working on J79 and F414 engines. Stationed in Chu Lai, Vietnam where MAG12 and 13 were and saw tons of F4's every day. Really love that old workhorse.

It is interesting that guys who love old MVs have lots more in common. old aircraft and guns too I bet ya.
We have a lot of fun, she loves the M931 which we've only had a little more than a year. She just sort of adopted it as her own. Then she found the M37 and bought it. So now she kinda has 2. My son sorta takes to the M35 and I usually have the M813. All of these I drove [except M37] while in the Marines so all good by me.

Your truck could almost be a clone of mine, except mine has a vinyl top. Was yours in a fire dept and painted the bright yellow/green color of some fire trucks?

Well I have figured out it was originally blue. Then was painted olive drab. Then red, then lime green. I don't really know much history on it other than a potato farmer had it before the guy I bought it from. It did have a strobe light on the roof at one time and the switch says "beacon ray". Which seems worded funny so was thinking very old switch. I intend to give a fellow over on steel soldier's the info and see if any history came up. He's done it with all my other trucks.

BTW Beacon Ray is the name Federal gives to the emergency lights they manufacture, either rotating or strobe.

When I was wearing the pickle suit we had yellow warning lights on our trucks with the acronym of RAWLS lights.

Interesting about Federal lights. I had never heard them called that.
I havent seen a rotating beacon light in like 30 years. I worked for the city long ago and we had them on all the dump trucks. Since Ive worked here [26] years, all strobes. Arrow, Truck lite etc.
At least you could fix those old lights, now its just replace pretty much as its rarely the bulb.
Guess I'll have to fix that hole in the roof,as the wire still sticks out it as well as a post mount spot light that was mounted through the rear part of the cab. More holes to fix.
