Ford 351 swap??

Did I see a post sometime ago of someone installing a Ford 351 W motor in to their M37 or is my memory playing tricks on me. Just wonder if the Front Sump oil pan on the ford small blocks create issues.

He sold the truck without completing the swap.
I would expect a front sump to be an issue. I had to use a rear sump when I put a big block Chevy in my 37.

You could always get a rear sump pan... IMS it shares the same oil pan as the other Windsor engines, so a rear sump car/suv/van application pan might be an easy thing to come by...
It wasn't an issue for my 428
(But that's not a 351...)
I like the 351W as swap candidate. Its different, and has enormous performance potential given the block design.
I'm thinking about a stroked 351W with a 5spd in my M152...

The split hump pans that are found on Crown Vics and the such would work. I think such a pan is used on the gt40 5.0ls in the Explorers/Mountaineers.

What does the W stand for? Is that a 531 Windsor vrs a 351 Cleveland?

"W" stands for Windsor. Most SBF engines are from the Windsor series, namely the 289,302 and 351. The 351 has a taller block deck height than the 289/302 engines but shares just about everything else.
The 351C or Cleveland engine is also very similar to the Windsor engines, however the heads are an improved design, but the internal coolant passages are different.
The 351M is a stray dog... The block is identical to the 400M, however its merely a de-stroked 400 making it not much more than a boat anchor. However it does have virtually identical heads to the 351 Cleveland. Which are a desirable head for performance. The 400M also shared these heads...
The last and final 351 is what is called a Cleavor. That involves using the common 351W block and then mounting Cleveland style heads on on top of it. This is the best of both worlds. All the performance parts for the Windsor rotating assembly, with the much better flowing heads of the Cleveland design.
