Installed NOS Cargo Box Canvas Yesterday

My last one, absolutely unused although some dust from storage where the wrapping paper was torn.

My friend George and I bolted the bows and ridgepole in place then heaved this heavy piece of 45 year old canvas on top. Laid along the center line of the truck from front to rear we just unfolded it and flopped down the sides and there it was, all ready to tie down. No swapping front to rear as it is stamped FRONT on the outside just above the cab so even GIs could not get it wrong.

Had some trouble getting the stiff canvas to form around the bow corners but we managed to get it to where it looked OK but will have to spend some time in the sun to allow the wrinkles to fall out.

Never had a shop building with a tall enough door to allow the top to stay on full time but with the 12' one in the new building at last the truck can stay show ready and relatively dust free under the 24" parachute I plan to cover it with.

Might allow it out of hiding to play in the snow.

Thanks for looking; Carter

Edit: Forgot to note that I also have NOS end curtains which will be installed after the new top gets use to it's new home and contours.

Excellent work, Carter! My Cargo canvas, bows and wood kit still await install-perhaps next Spring. Still gotta get my front clip back on before winter.... Thanks for the pictures, too!

Thanks guys, I have always been impressed with how our trucks look under full canvas ever since I saw my first M37 at APG when I was 13 yrs. old.

Awww, it's too nice now Carter, you'll have to keep her locked up and get another truck to "play" with :P

Tony, guess I should have kept the one I sold to w30bob. and to all the rest of you who have commented, thank you, we always like to see M porn so thought several pics of my rig can't be bad. I was wrong about the size of the parachute, it is 28 and fits perfectly.

Looks great Carter. I too love the smell of old canvas. Congrats on the install.

I am in the same boat you were, I do not have a garage tall enough to allow my cargo bows and canvas. Soon I hope. :)

David, It would be nice if there was a aerosol room freshener scent in new GI canvas. :D also I have dealt with having an 8' door on my garage from the time I got my first M in 1972 until last year so soon is good and better than no way that will ever happen.

I do not know, this one is NOS and IIRC was over 45 years old.

Why not call them and ask, they still make military truck tops....

John Bizal @ MWM stocks and sells all of the M37 canvas components from the J Johnson CO.
