Rims and tires- stock truck but want to drive

I'm new. You may have seen my OP on my truck.
I'd like to stay as stock and historic as possible, but 50 year old, rock hard, NDT tires are a pretty tough ride.
I'm thinking of getting a second set of rims to put some decent tires on for most driving and playing around. I'll use the old tires only if doing a static historic display. Love to have tires that are decent light off road use but don't look too modern.

Questions:
Any tips on rims? Will an old stock set do?
Where should I look to buy rims?
What is a fair price to pay for used stock rims?
Suggestions on tires: size, tread, make/model?

Thanks,
wwiifirearms

Any tips on rims? Will an old stock set do? Running stock rims is ok unless you're using super-sized tires;
Where should I look to buy rims? Several forum members have spares; I got one from John at Midwest Military;
What is a fair price to pay for used stock rims? Prices vary-reach out to the above;
Suggestions on tires: size, tread, make/model? Lots of guys run 11.00x16 Michelins-pricy and somewhat rare but look great, bigger stance, and will go anywhere.

Cabell Garbee has a lot of basic tire and rim information on his web site that you might find useful. http://www.garbee.net/~cabell/tires.htm

check the expedition portal forums and some others for guys with the m101a1 trailers. most of those guys ditch the stock axles and tires really fast. would be a good source of rims, and for tires there are lots of threads on tires, garbee has a good page with them as well. Other option is to just get new NDT's. They're not the best, but they're not bad if you don't want to keep swapping. Coker has them. Not the cheapest, but high quality and made in the USA. Most of the other new tires are brought in from China. Lucas classic tires has the foreign ones around $210 and the USA ones around $280 which is comparable to Coker. With Coker you might be close enough to justify a trip to Chatanooga to pick them up and take a tour of their facility. It's a truly incredible place since they make the vintage wheels in house and there's a boat load of classic cars and trucks in there. Corky is a funny dude as well.

If you want to have run around tires and then show tire I'd get an extra set of rims. A good 9.00 x 16 truck tire will work fine on the stock rims you'll just have to get tubes for them. This way all you would have to do is drive around with the daily driver tires and then when you get to a show just switch to a set of stock NDT and you'll all set. Now if you looking for off road performance tires then might have to look into getting set of special made rims that are tubeless and have the M37 bolt pattern and back spacing. but that will not be cheap. The way I said above with stock rims would be the less expensive way to do.

I use Super Lugs as an everyday type tire (especially on wet / snowy roads) for better grip and longer wear. I keep a set of NDTs on an extra set of rims for static display. NDTs don't last very long on paved roads and they are expensive. YMMV
