Spin on oil fitler

I would like to change out the canister style oil filter for a modern spin on style. Does anyone know of a kit that will accomplish this. I have seen lots of filter relocation kits that could probably be modified. If anyone has done this any information is appreciated.

If you want to stay with the bypass type filtration like the original filter it's very simple to convert to spin-on, I can give you part #'s. If you are wanting to convert to full flow filtration as in a current day engine, that's quite a bit more involved. Which way are you thinking?

For now I think bypass filtration. I am seriously considering a diesel repower for this truck, but in reality it won't begin untill fall or winter at the earliest.
On a side note I have a friend that has several diesel engines he is willing to part with. There are a few different Mercedes engines as well as a Duetz 5 cyl. I have not had a chance to research how feasible these would be, anyone heard of anyone using either a MB or a Duetz diesel in a M56?

Don't see why it can't be done. A friend of mine repowered a 1921 International 1-ton with a Mercedes 220D. Works great, too.

You need to go to your local Baldwin filter dealer, ask for an OB1305 oil filter base & a B-164 filter element. It will mount on the original bracket with the simple addition of a small angle. Plumb it with the original lines according to instructions that are included with the base. These numbers can be crossed referenced at NAPA if a Baldwin dealer isn't handy. This provides the same bypass type protection as the original filter, but with the convenience of a spin-on filter element.
