Did the map light plug on the dash have some sort of cover to protect it when not in use?
What did the map light itself look like?

Mine has a square cover in the lower-right dash corner, if that's the one you mean (my cab is a '52 while all else is '54).

Yes, my 52 had the socket removed and the hole covered, I am putting the plug back in, and the threaded part that sticks out seems like the kind of thing the military would put a cover on.

Fig 18-5 of SNL G741 shows the plug, it looks like there is a cover and beaded chain on it. Now to locate said cover...

You might want to try some antique marine supplies. Perhaps Cole Hersee. It was not unusual to have covers on deck or cockpit sockets for equipment that might be portable. Spot lights, binnacle light etc.

My truck had the dash plug and cover on the old harness. I will have to see if I have a picture of that cover.

Does anyone have an extra cap?
What was meant to plug in here? I have a couple of "map lights" but none have a plug like this.

The plug for that receptical looks like the one on your distributor, but the gender is reversed.

When it was listed on Ebay it was called an "Auxilliary Power Cable", but I can't find such a cable in the ORD. Here's what it looks like;

Yes, I have that part, I'm surprised that the cap was not included in the kit.
What I am wondering is what did it power? What did the "map light" look like? I have seen the lamps that plug into a lamp socket, but none with this threaded fitting, was there some sort of adaptor set that went on here?

Hi Chris,
I think I have a few of these kits that are NOS manufactured in 1952. I'll see if those came with the cap/cover. As for what it powered?........take a look at an early M37 wiring diagram and see which breaker it's fed from.....the amperage might help answer what it powered.

I've got the complete set up in my truck, Chris. I'll try to take some pictures and post them tomorrow. It all works.
You might also try talking to John Bizal at Midwest Military. I believe he will have everything you need if you want to get yours working again.

Thanks, That is exactly what I was looking for.
I have a light just like that, but it has a different end, I think it is made to hook into the hood lamp socket.
Now I just need to find one of these lights, and the little cap and chain.
