Carbon = Concrete

I appreciate all the advice on pulling the head & manifolds. Having them machined and baked at high temp was great. We covered the engine bay in plastic and used a soft wire wheel on a drill. We rotated the cylinders up using a wrench to turn the crankshaft and cleaned the underside of each valve. When done, the light still showed areas of carbon "plaque" on the block. Carefully with a 1" blade we had to scrape the stuff off - man was it stuck on there like concrete. We used some mineral spirits and a green scruby to shine the piston heads and areas around the valve seats. Cleaned everything twice with clean rags and spirits. There were some drip run marks on the cylinder walls in a few places where the antifreeze ran but everything looks clean. We ran the tap down the bolt holes and blew them out. Anything else we should look for??
We bought some silver Eastwood man paint and will prepare the head and manifolds for 2 coats. Should be easy enough. Let me know - Keith
