I'm struggling with the rebuild of my Carter YF. Might be something as simple as still not having the float adjusted right; or am I missing something? The photo shows the float adjusted to high. I've adjusted the float parallel with the float bowl cover, and it still leaks. My next attempt is to lower it and see what happens.
I've checked for leaks in the float, it's good, fuel pressure is at 5psi.
What was happening at idle was fuel was spilling out from the main discharge nozzle. Also with the carb removed I could tip it slightly and get the same results; fuel spilling from main nozzle. If I lower the level of fuel in the bowl, it required more tilt to get it drain. So I'm thinking the level is still to high. The idea behind the float is to have enough fuel to cover the accelerator pump inlet, and not so much that it overflows out the discharge nozzle? Even with the float adjusted correctly and fuel level correct, would it still drain if tipped to much?
I'm hoping in correcting my tilt problem I also correct my siphoning problem; does this sound right?

The biggest problem that I have had regarding the YF carbs on my Willys Jeeps is to make sure that when you are tightening the accelerator pump to make sure that you don't get the diaphragm caught in the screws, it will tear it. That has caused some fuel draining problems that occur if the vehicle sits for a few days. I usually set the float at 5/16 with the air horn inverted and run it. I hope this may have helped.
