Is there supposed to be a floor seal or gasket type material between the floor panels and the cab? Same thing for the tranny panel?

Well......I'll say yes. I've got some take-off floor panels that I just got and they have a strip of some type of seal on the edge......looks very original to me. I have to run out to do some Honey-Do errands, but when I get back I'll post some pics.

I believe they originally had strips of felt glued to the panels. I didn't put any thing on mine though because I thought the felt was contributing to rust

My truck had some type of gasket just wasnt sure what to use to replace it or if it was supposed to be there although it looked old

Good call Brett......I'd say it's a felt material too. Definitely stuck on there with some type of glue.

Hi 52,

ORD 9, Group 18 Body and Cab, section 1804, pg 331, lists the floor plates as "Board, Toe, W/Liner" for left and right, upper and lower. I can only assume the "liner" is the felt weatherstriping.

I've never seen a floor plate with them and couldn't find any listing for a gasket in the manuals. So, how did you replace them when they were destroyed or missing? Did you order a new floor pan assembly to replace a missing gasket?

Would these have been original issue items - non field replaceable? Or is there some note to "make on assembly"?

Just curious.

Good questions M.....not sure I can answer any of them. I did find a second set of floor plates that are original to my M.....and they have the felt seals too (or what's left of them).
What is obvious after digging thru the ORD is that quite an effort was made to keep the cab watertight....or at least sealed. There were grommets around the winch handle, pedals, accelerator, around the doors and windows....if you start adding up all the weatherstriping and sealing I can understand why they also sealed the floor plates to the cab. What's not apparent is any form of rust-proofing. Seems weren't supposed to last forever, so rust prevention probably wasn't high on either Chrysler or the Army's list of priorities. Luckily, the good ol' American steel they used was pretty stout stuff....much better than what they made cars out of.
