It's running!

Finally, after five years of slow-mo work, my truck was running and idling this afternoon.

Am I correct in thinking surging above idle speed is the govenor? I adjust it to the book specs when I rebuilt the carb but I suspect that the baffle plate is closing prematurely when I press on the pedal. It also stumbles, which must be the vacuum accel pump. I have heard that the plunger for the pump in these new carb kits is not the correct one, does anyone know what can be done to fix this?

Did I mention it RUNS?? :D 8)

Way to go John!

Surging isn't necessarily the governor-mine had a worn-out civvy carb on it that surged, and once I swapped it for the ETWI the surging stopped.

Low flow fuel pump comes to mind, had a truck that did the same thing, checked everything else including carb float level and finally replaced the pump and problem solved. Something to think about.

I would check the filter first, if good check fuel pressure next.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. The pump is drawing from a gas can currently, as the gas tank isn't ready to be reinstalled. I backed off the govenor setting and it smoothed out, even though I had set it according to the info in the manual when rebuiding the carb. Apparently it was trying to close the baffle at a fast idle. It's better now but I have to do some more adjusting to get it all working together.

There's still a lot to do but at least I am most of the way up this mountain of a project.
