Ok. It is time for me to decide where i'm going with my truck. Is anybody using theirs as a driver? If so do you have any comments or suggestions about using the truck this way? The only thing my truck will be hauling is me (after 50+ years of service it deserves a rest). Also I am looking for a realistic cruising speed for a truck with the 5.83 and 4.89 gears if anybody knows.

Cruise speed with 5.89 = 45mph. With 4.89 = 55mph. With a Cummins & a 5-speed OD with 4.89 = 75mph. If considering a daily driver, consider a Cummins upgrade. At 6-8mpg, gas for the 230 will get expensive at today's prices.

I have just begun to drive my truck. Its still got some things that need work(like painting the bed, rewiring, etc) but I have it reliable enough to take it on short trips(do not have the nerve for a long drive yet). So far I've driven mine to our local shopping center, to the landfill to drop off used oil, plus round the neighborhood drives with the kids. Oh and to the gas station.
When you find yourself on your way out to a local activity consider taking the M instead of the B&B(bread and butter) car. Things of that nature.

Some say 24+mpg on the open road. Ours is now our shop truck, mostly local running. The weight of the truck without added load is 7,410#, we get 18mpg locally with the Cummins, 4.89's, & 5-speed OD.

Hello KLRCMR069, and I do indeed drive my M37 with great frequency. Ownes a WC52 for 18 years and wore out the engine ! My logic is as follows: Establish engine operation reliability, Lubricate everything, Establish breaking capability, everythuing else is secondary, and after that, eastetics ( I can't even spell that damn word). Looks is last !

Sound advice Peter especially #4. And don't worry about spelling most people that come in my store can barely speak.

I run a small hardware store in southern california. Used to be a good business until the economy collapsed.

You know, way back before 1911, you could buy Thompson submachine guns in hardware stores. Take a look in the remote areas in the old cieling cavities, and especially under the stairwells in the basement and attick. You never know what you may find there...

Store has been here since 1946 and i have been through every square inch of this place and i have found some interesting stuff. When the original wood shed collapsed we found the remains of a model T flat bed burried underneath, it is in the town museum now. They seem to think it is the first automobile to come to the valley (matches some pictures i guess).

Well here's a place you haven't yet checked: Do you have any original plumbing fixtures ? Open the traps in these fixtures and you can find some interesting and valuable goodies. I have found an 18 karat gold chain, RINGS, AND A FRIEND FOUND A FIVE DOLLAR GOLD PIECE.! Good luck and don't forget to wash your hands.

I constantly drive my M-37 everywhere, when I was stationed in San Diego I used to make that run from L.A. at 55 mph, I did this for 2 1/2 years. Recently I took a trip to 29 Palms from L.A. at 55 or better. Every where I go I run 55 +, the old girl is still running strong.
