Isn't MVPA Registration for a full year?

Hi Guys,
I got an email to day from MVPA saying my membership expired on 1/31/13. But I joined on 3/29/2012. Isn't membership for 12 months? Or did I not read the fine print? I'll give them a call tomorrow.......but just wanted to make sure I didn't miss something.
thanks,
bob

Hi Bob,
I just looked at my renewal info and it arrived at 30 days prior to having to renew. I would call them to see if they can answer your question.

At the DTHT we allow a full following year for late (within 1 to 2 months of the renewal date) for new registrations, prior to that we can also offer a small discount to allow for the fact a member would not receive at least 6 months of their membership but bear in mind we have less than 40 members and are not incorporated , once we exceed 40 it will be a requirement to do so here and membership payment rules then have to change I think?

I always thought payment was due on the anniversary of joining, usually 12 months?

I think I get my notice every new calendar year; Bob, send an email to HQ and let us know their response.
Thanks,
Gary

Hi Guys,
Well....I sent the MVPA an email yesterday and got a response back today. I guess I understand, sort of. You're really not a member for a year, you're a member for 6 issues of Supply Line/Army Motors. So here's the email chain latest first;
Bob,
Thank you for your support of the MVPA! Yes, you joined March 29, 2012. The membership goes with the publications. Your 1st publications was the Apr/May Supply Line and Army Motors# 139 then your last one being the Feb/March Supply Line and Army Motors #142.
Hope this explains why your membership is expires in January.
Hope to be hearing from you in the near future.

Subject: RE: We Want You Back!
Hi Hq,
I’m just a bit confused. I started my membership in March of 2012……isn’t membership for a year? If so, then why is my membership up in January, as indicated below?
Thanks,
bob

I had a similar issue two years ago, then my online stuff didn't process right, so I let it lapse, after much run-around and a letter/email esplaning how they want me back. I bit the bullet & did it, re-up for another 9 months. Gary when did this all come about, not sure I like ?

Maybe this is why I didn't see the same thing, I joined at the end of December many years ago.
I did shoot them an email early last month when I didn't get my calender, they replied that it has been discontinued with no notice.

I did reply that I always looked forward to it and it would be great if it was started again in the future.

Beats me Bruce-I wasn't aware of this either but it does seem a bit odd.

They're making a killing on me I'm a MVPA member for 35 years and stupid enough to pay yearly. Should have done the life member a few years back.

Hmmmm......I don't see any mention of a lifetime membership on their website. Do they still off that option?

No longer available, I'm sure it's no longer cost effective? I really like what they/we con do, but this 9 or so month membership just rubs me the wrong way.
Some higher up's at the national level live in my neck of the woods, I have a standing invite, I might go and bend Lee's ears a little, learn a thing or two I'm sure.

Hi Bruce,
If you ever do chat with Lee let us know what he says. I thought I was understanding the rationale, but then I checked the MVPA website and here's what it said on the membership page.
"Each level of membership includes the above benefits* with an annual subscription to both of the MVPA’s renowned publications. ARMY MOTORS is published quarterly and SUPPLY LINE bi-monthly; you receive 10 magazines per year. Memberships are for one year and are renewed in October of each year – join during the year and your dues will be pro-rated for the rest of that year with the balance credited toward the next year’s membership."
I guess I understand what they're saying regarding the issues you receive, but they're not describing the membership right by calling for it lasting a year. Here's what I think they are doing. I joined in late March. The April/May issue comes out earlier than the issue date, so it comes out in March. That was my first issue. Then I got the June/July issue in May, the Aug/Sep issue in July, the Oct/Nov issue in September, the Dec/Jan issue in November and finally the Feb/March issue a few weeks ago in January. And that's when they consider the membership up.....when I got that 6th issue in January (although my membership started on March 29th).
Technically if I had a year long membership mine should expire on March 29th of this year. But they send out the 2013 April/May issue in March.....so I'd be getting a 7th issue if that were the case. What they SHOULD DO in my case is send me a note saying my membership is good until March 29th, but I won't be receiving the April/May issue unless I re-up before that date for another year. That would make more sense than telling me in January that my membership is done and if I don't re-up soon I'm going to lose my MVPA number. Technically, that number should be mine until March 29th.
Hey, this is probably all for naught. I'm just bitching. I think the MVPA is a great organization an I'm going to rejoin no matter what. I just think they need to explain how the membership works a bit better. Or maybe not. Seems I'm the only nucklehead having a problem with it.
thanks for listening,
bob

I checked with what we do, if you join 3 months prior to an AGM (actually leniant, 4 months would be ok) your membership carries to the next year for a full year with all newsletters included for that period... (I am the secretary and a founding member, you would think that I would remember this??
