Took a mental health day from work today, decided mid morning to make a waste oil run to the local landfill using the M. The place is only about 3 miles away, no big deal. Anyway when I returned I did a post trip walk around. I always do this as a precaution before putting the truck away. I decided to feel around to see if anything was hot (like a bearing hub), etc. Paranoia maybe but its something I always do. Anyway I noticed the transfer case was warm to the touch (about as warm as a mild cup of coffee). It just seemed weird because the transmission was not warm at all. Is this normal?

Also, is it normal to have oil leaking from where the distributor goes into the block? I noticed a few drops of oil on the floor under the distributor or at least around that vicinity. I hadn't noticed oil in this area before. I looked around with a light and a mirror but can't be 100% sure the oil came from this area though. Should I be concerned with this? TIA

I can't speak with any authority about the warm t-case, but from your description, I don't think there's a problem there (yet). Someone will correct me if I'm mistaken, I'm sure.

On the "few drops of oil" thing, I'd say that it's just a sign that you have oil pressure when the engine is running. ;)

You better don't try to touch the t-case after a short higway trip, unless you want leave the skin of your fingers and palm permanently on the housing like a sticker.
Those gears heat up a lot. Same for the diff pumpkins.

The T/case runs rather warm normally, using 50 weight oil will help it run considerably cooler unless there is a problem such as a bearing on the way down.

There is a seal ring that keeps oil from leaking around the distributor, it is pretty typical to find it smashed or broken when pulling the distributor. If this seal is good, you will have no leaks.

the dist gasket is cork and gets old and hard VPW had the cork ones, they also had a o ring type but I did not like the way it fit ( Dist seemed to wobble) so I stuck with the flat cork type.

The distributor seal ring, whether the cork type or the o-ring style is used will not be the cause of distributor wobble. Distributor wobble can come as a result of 2 issues. If the wobble is mild or only slightly noticeable, most likely the shaft is slightly bent. If it's severe as in doing the hula, most likely you have a civilian style oil pump shaft mated with a military offset tang distributor shaft or vise-versa. The distributor housing is a fairly close slip fit into the block bore, unless there is pretty severe wear on the housing or in the block distributor bore (usually not the case), 1 of the 2 scenerios listed above is the only reason for distributor wobble. As long as correctly mated components are running straight & true, there should be no distributor movement at all, even without a seal ring in place. Yes without a seal it will leak oil, but it won't wobble as a result of a missing seal. Long story short, a cork seal (o-ring either for that matter) simply will not cure a wobble issue.

Let me rephrase
I had a nos Mil dist and a nos Mil oil pump on my 230 the Oring type gasket caused MY dist to wobble whereas after I replaced the O-ring type with the flat cork type it worked fine and never had a problem after. I believe the ( skinny) O-ring does not provide a good seat for the dist base and such causes the dist to wobble whereas the wider (flat) cork type provides a better surface ( dist base to block ) seat.
Besides VPW I believe A.B.Linn carries the cork type also. For those who don't know about mixing a civie O.P with a Mil dist ( and vice versa) here a pic of the offset shaft slots ( Mil units pictured )
