I need to replace my battery cables. I have a disconnect switch so they are not the normal length. Can someone tell me what gauge wire I should use?
Thanks,

Hi Gerry,
Stock battery cables were No.2 AWG....so you can go 2 AWG or bigger (smaller number).

Where are you mounting your disconnect? Mine is mounted in front of the passenger seat. i was thinking of moving it inside the box to hide it but it is convenient where it is. Dont have to lift the seat every time and Its within reach of the driver.

Mix4coal,
Mine is located in the same spot but has a key so no one can easily hop in and take her away.

If you live by a West Marine store, they usually have the cable, ends, and a workbench with tools to assemble the cables in the store.

Gerry, Just go to Municipal Truck on Blacks Rd, they will make whatever length cables you need. I think I used 0 gauge when I installed my keyed disconnect.

Warren,
Thats exactly what I was planning. I have known George for years and he has helped me track down a couple parts already. Anyone know the length of the short battery to battery cable? Is there a certain style end that is correct?

Gerry,
ORD 9 doesn't list the length of the battery to battery cable......but it's going to be different depending on the batteries you're using and how you orient them in the battery tray. What I mean is not all batteries have their terminals in the same place relative to the outside dimensions of the battery (which are different for each battery type) and you can orient them in the tray as a mirrored pair or both facing the same way. I'd suggest you put the batteries in the tray the way you want them and then use a piece of string to simulate how you want the battery to battery cable to sit....then just measure the string.
As for the terminals I can't help ya. I've never seen an original M37 battery cable. Lots of folks sell what they call military cable ends on Ebay, but they don't look like the terminals I see in the M37 pubs. The ones they sell look like a cheap crimp-on. The ones in the manual look almost like they're cast metal. I'm sure someone can chime in on the cable ends.

bob

Bob,
I bought cast lead ones from NAPA Auto Parts.
These are made by Standard Motor Products.
PN on Pos A52425-1
PN on Neg A52425-2 the part number on the outside of this box is BP36N, I don't have the box from the Pos terminals.
Hope this helps,
Bert
