Hi Guys,

I got to spend some time with Carter this afternoon, and I gotta say the guy is just a treasure trove of knowledge about these trucks. Last time we got together he learned me real good about shovels for the Pioneer tool rack. And I thought a shovel was a shovel...shows what I know. Knew. This time he showed me a detail I never would have found. It's an AL (AutoLite) symbol stamped into the top of each headlight bucket at the 12 o'clock position. It's such a faint stamp that a single thick coat of paint would cover it up. It was totally not visible on the two headlights I just checked until I did a little sanding.

C'mon....it's Friday night.....you're just sitting around doing nothing.....grab some sandpaper and head out into the garage. You know it's killing you to know if your lights have this stamp on them. You'll never get to sleep not knowing.

I never noticed that until I sandblasted the lights. Here's the final look for mine,symbol still visible:

I'm going to look at my buckets to see if that is visible on mine.

Thank you all, you are too kind, I love to share what I have learned but in the past one of my greatest frustrations was not knowing how to pass on info about our favorite M series vehicles. Once in a while a fellow owner would allow me to help educate him on a topic but that would only be one person and just a couple of items of interest. I have owned and worked on M37s since my army days beginning in 1965 on thru to present having owned 8 and worked on and maintained hundreds including US Army and NG owned ones, a lot of fire department and several others privately owned. I have learned a lot of facts about them and now with the 'net forums am able to share as never before but I do not claim to be in the same league as many of our forum's experts but do have some useful info to pass on.

This is one I donated to Hacks Point Maryland Volunteer FD, it was a great runner and they needed a brush fire rig so I gave them what they needed.

You're right, I bet more than one of us jumped out of our chairs and went out to look for the "AL" on our headlights.
Before sand blasting, five coats of paint had hidden those stampings.
