Cylinder sleeves

Hi everyone,
I recently got a good deal on six .020" oversize cylinder sleeves for a possible future rebuild on my M37, I also have pistons and rings to match. When I opened one of the sleeves from it's factory package (1971) I was surprised to find the bore to be rather roughly machined, I was expecting to see a nice crosshatched bore ready for pistons and rings. It obviously needs to be machined once it is in the block, are all sleeves done this way?

I'm not a machinist but I would think that pressing it in the block you'll have some distortion along the ID of the bore. You'll have to machine the sleeve to make sure it is round.

Greencom,

From my experience with sleeves what you see is normal. They need to be machined to final dimension once installed. Many are also a bit longer than needed and have to be dressed down after installation to make them flush with the deck. If they're installed too far in the rods will hit them. But whoever's installing them will know all those details. :mrgreen:
