New Member from Illinois

I've just purchased my first M37. It's sitting in Landing, NJ and I want to get it to Illinois, or reasonably close thereto. I'm not in a hurry, it's being well taken care of, but would like to get it in the next 30 days. Anyone know of someone transporting from NJ to anywhere west? I could meet someone part of the way and drive it home, if necessary. I've put most of my money into buying the truck so don't have a lot to spend on transporting.
Also looking for 4 or 5 STA Super Lugs in 900x16, or something similar. It's currently running on Michelin XL 11:00R 10.9x16. I'd appreciate any info.

Welcome aboard Judge...! I can't help with shipping but will recommend NOT to drive it from point A to Z-the low top speed will just kill you and you'd want to do a detailed inspection of all major components as well. Don't break something in your rush to get it home.

STAs or Michelins are quite popular on these trucks-if you wanted to trade even-up, I'm sure there are a number of our forum members who'd consider it if you wish to deal away those Michelins.

For transportation, your best bet might be to register over at Steel Soldiers. They have a forum section dedicated to transportation and it's probably a better deal than just hiring someone on your own. If the truck is running, it makes loading easier. Remember, these trucks are about 6000lbs so just any rental trailer isn't going to cut it.

Welcome from North of the border in Wisconsin. I second that about Steel Soldiers transportation.

Thanks for all the great info. Here's how it all started. After taking a 6 day trip on my Harley, I came to the conclusion that it was time to get back on 4 wheels. I started looking on ebay and elsewhere for a Toyota fj40 like the one I bought new in "75 for $5275! Boy, how times change. As I was looking, I came across this cool looking military truck and started researching M37s and PWs. Finding all these interesting sites and forums (pl. of forums? , fora?) the more I read the more I thought this was way more interesting, than an fj. I loved the history, the fact that they appear practically indestructible and unstoppable. They also looked like a cool project to work on for years. Not being the most mechanically skilled, I looked for one that was essentially done, but has room for someone like me to work on. I found a 55 in New Jersey. It's not stock, it has a 350 short-block Chevy engine, Turbo 400 auto tranny out of a one-ton truck, Dana 60 with 4:10's in the front, Dana 70 with 4:10's in the back, but everything else is stock, original or repro. I knew it would never be a museum piece and I'm not looking to win any historic car shows, but it appears to be a blast to drive. Top end is 65-70 on the highway so I'm not in the situation of only being able to do 40-45 at the max. I'm taking my first automotive technology class at the local Jr. College just to get a better grasp of what I could do with the truck. I really enjoy reading all the very informative posts by both M37 & PW owners. An interesting group, I must say. I think I've found something to occupy what little free time I have in a constructive fashion, and something I know no one else around here has. I look forward to learning a great deal from all of you. Thanks for the warm welcome!

I forgot to mention, once I figure out how to post pictures, I'll put some up. Also, in response to one inquiry, I'm in Danville, IL 150 miles south of Chicago, right on the IL/IN border.

Hey Will,
I've admired your trucks on your webpage and in video. Especially the M37. The wheels you have on that are really sharp & I appreciate the fact that you list where all the parts have come from. I am amazed to find this whole world of truck enthusiasts I never knew existed. Everyone has been very helpful with information and advice, both here and in the Power Wagon forum. I'm sure I'll be contacting you more once the truck gets here and I can see where I want to go with it.
