Lights, sound & 12Volts..

I have (Make) nifty under dash, plug hidden in glove box, stereos. I've been thinking on putting one of these in my M37 but it wants 12 Volts to be happy. This is not really a problem, I could make up a small 24V->12V converter and hide that under the dash as well. Then it struck me.. How are the other M37 people dealing with this? I read about splitting the battery and how its not liked because it could lead to early battery death. I don't want to convert the entire truck to 12V just for my silly stereo.

Would other people be interested in a 12V power supply for running/charging accessories? Or has this been solved and I've just not read enough?

Thanks!

I think most people just use 24VDC to 12VDC converters. They are small, cheap and readily available. They also let you keep your electrical system pretty much stock.

Some people also use the box of an old, dead, scrap military radio as a housing for the converter and radio/stereo. Additionally, you can use old military speakers (or at least the housings) as speakers. It keeps the military "look". :D

Well, I got a message from my engineer today. He tells me it would probably be be easier to make up a 24V stereo than a 24v-12v converter. So, I figured I'd put it out here and see if there's any interest at all. (He knows I have a 24V M37)

It amplifies music from things like iPods, and provides a 5V USB charger. Originally designed as a boat stereo. Its popular with the 4x4 crowd because its pretty rugged, and the classic car crowed because its designed to be hidden. Which would be good for keeping the military look.

Looks like this. You mount the plugin plate someplace like in the glove box and the module hidden under the dash somewhere.

Nice unit, I was looking at the Waterproof MP3/ Ipod Marine Power Amplifier (http://www.buy.com/prod/pyle-plmrmp3a-m ... stingId=-1 & http://www.pyleaudio.com/sku/PLMRMP3A) for my Jeep.
