I try to find out what it is required to add a winch to a non winch truck.
I like to get an M43 ambulance and as these are a few compared with M37s around found one with winch is a rarity.

So far here is my list.

1)Braden LU4 winch
2) winch to frame mounts
3)winch vehicle bumpers complete with frame extensions
4)PTO with gasket
5)PTO shaft
6)PTO lever
7)vehicle tag with winch details

I have # 1,2,4,5
I try to find out how the frame extensions can be ubolted from the frame rails ?
Also looking for the PTO lever and for an M43 with winch tag...

Any help will be greatly appreciated...

It seems to me your not missing much. Original "bumperettes" and frame extensions may be hard to find but you COULD fabricate
those items. May not LOOK like the original but when well planned out could be very servicable at least until you chance
upon the original parts from a donor vehicle.
Same goes for the PTO lever. 3/8" flat stock for the lever could easily be made.
The winch "tag" has no reference to M37 or M43 on it and is readily available from vendors like Mid-west Military and
Vintage PowerWagon.

I am at a similar stage as you, just missing the PTO shaft and lever. Hopefully you'll document your process as will I. Good luck!

Thanks for the info.Actually I can have a pair of original winch bumpers and frame extensions BUT I have to supply detailed removal instructions as the donor vehicle is very far away from me and one local friend has no idea how to remove them...
Good to know that winch tag is universal...

Sure I will take photos as I also have to rebuild the winch the PTO and possibly the shaft and to sandblast the bumpers...

If you're having a third party remove winch parts from a donor vehicle, ask them to keep all the available
Dodge Brothers scripted bolts and the nuts. Have them ship these along with your winch parts.
Your restoration will be a bit better with all OEM bolts showing.
Reproduction "scripted" Dodge Brothers bolts are available but are not cheap.

Don't forget the studs to mount the pto to the transmission. What I did when I removed my winch from its donor, I took an extra pto cover plate with bolts and a couple of fine thread 3/8" nuts (to get the studs out- put 1 nut on then use the other as a jam nut to help get the studs out). Put the cover plate on in place of pto and throw some gear lube in the transmission - it makes the donor trans available for another day and the owner of the donor
Watch for water when the gear lube is drained. Since the pto is at the lowest point it will collect in there and cause all sorts of grief.
The gaskets are the adjustment for the clearances of the gears between the pto and the transmission and are easily found at local truck shops in different thicknesses.
