Hi Guys,

I got a used water pump in a box of parts I got off Ebay. Is there any way to tell (or test) a used pump off the truck to determine if it needs a rebuild? Or is it just wiser rebuild it anyway and be done with it?

thanks,
bob

If you are thinking of rebuilding it as a spare, not wise, as it may lay on the shelf for years before use, and will likely leak when installed through the weep hole due to a dried out seal.

These pumps can be bought new still at around $70-$75, buy it when you need it, your luck will be much better.

Where can you get one of these new? I think mine is going away, sounds like its grinding itself inside.

Hi Jim,

AB Linn Inc has one on eBay right now that's American made for $70. I'm not sure if they all are made in USA or not. The link is:

Other sources are http://www.vintagepowerwagons.com and http://www.midwestmil.com. I'm sure the guys will give you other sources as well.

bob

All these vendors use the same source of supply that we do for these pumps. S&S Truck Parts. They are not a direct cross over, the shaft hub is shorter, but they are good pumps, however the spacer will need to be machined so it is thin enough to compensate for the shorter hub length. Otherwise the fan has nothing to center off of. We have never had a issue with one.
