REPAIR UPDATE & REAR MAIN SEAL WOES

HELLO ALL, AND NEW MEMBERS WELCOME TO THIS GREAT FORUM. LONG TIME THAT I HAVE NOT SHOWED UP, BUT I HAVE BEEN VERY BUSY LATELY. I HOPE YOU ARE ALL WELL. AMONG OTHER THINGS THAT I HAVE BEEN OCCUPIED WITH, I HAVE ALSO PUT UP AGAINST THE O.D. GREMLINS THAT HAVE BEEN RESIDING IN MY M37. SO FAR, I HAVE REBUILT THE BRAKES, REBUILT THE CARBURATOR, REPLACED THE BLOWN HEAD GASKET AND PLANNED THE HEAD, AND CLEANED THE GAS TANK USING ELECTROLYSIS, AND THEN LINED IT WITH A TWO PRT EPOXIC PRIMER, AS I HAD DONE TO MY YAMAHA 5 YEARS AGO. I ALSO REPLACED THE STUCK "BUTTERFLY" IN THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD, AND ADJUSTED THE VALVES. THE LAST THING THAT I ADDRESSED LAST WEEK BEFORE THE SKIES OPENED UP AND LET ALL THE RAIN DOWN, WAS MY LEAKING REAR MAIN SEAL. ALL THESE YEARS I HAD THIS OIL LEAK, RUNNING FROM THE BACK OF THE ENGINE TO THE CLUTCH PAN AND DRIP THROUGH THE BOTTOM HOLE. SO I FIGGURED NOW IT WAS THE TIME TO FIX IT! FIRST OF ALL, AFTER LOOSENING THE OIL PAN, IT WAS NEXT TO IMPOSIBLE TO DROP. EVENTUALLY, I HAD TO PRY IT OUT LEAVING A FILM OF CORK GASKET ON THE PAN LIP, AND AN EQUAL FILM ON THE ENGINE BOTTOM WHICH I HAD TO CLEAN WITH A RAZOR!! YOU UNDERSTAND HOW EASY THAT IS UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK, WITH OIL DRIPPING STILL LOL!!! THEN I REMOVED THE LAST BEARING CAP, THAT CONTAINS THE SEAL. TA DAH!! THE SEAL I THOUGHT I NEEDED WAS A TWO PIECE ROPE LIKE SQUEARISH KIND OF SEAL THAT GOES INTO A GROOVE, AND THE ONE ON MY TRUCK WAS A TWO PIECE WIPED OUT RUBBER THAT RIDES ON A GROOVE. GREAT!!! "OH, WAIT" I THOUGHT "PERHAPS, WHOEVER FIXED THIS TRUCK IN THE PAST, DID NOT KNOW WHAT THEY WERE DOING! APPARENTLY, I HAVE THE RIGHT SEAL WHILE THEY USED WHATEVER THEY FOUND AROUND! APPARENTLY, THE ROPE I HAVE GOES INTO THIS GROOVE RIGHT BEFORE THE END OF THE BLOCK." AND YES, I INSTALLED IT THERE. NO, I DO NOT KNOW WHAT THIS GROOVE WAS THERE FOR, BUT I DO KNOW THAT NOW IT LEAKS WAY WORSE THAN IT DID BEFORE. APPARENTLY THE RIGHT REAR MAIN SEAL AS I SEE NOW IS WHAT THEY HAD ON PREVIOUSLY, WHICH IS MENTIONED AS 3675 SPLIT REAR MAIN SEAL FOR 230 CHRYSLER/DODGE/PLYMOUTH. SO NOW, I HAVE TO DRAIN THE NEW OIL I JUST PUT IN, AND PERFORM THE REPAIR AGAIN, AFTER I HAVE THE RIGHT SEAL IN MY HANDS. NEEDLESS TO SAY I DO NOT START THE ENGINE UNTIL THIS IS DONE. OH, WELL, SOME MORE ENGINE OIL ON MY HAIR AND FACE LOL!!! :lol: PLENTY OF VIDEOS SO FAR, BUT WILL HAVE TO ESTABLISH A DECENT INTERNET CONNECTION TO UPLOAD.

i did my oil pan gasket. jacked up on the front bumper letting the suspension/axle drop until the front tires were about to come off the ground, then turned the steering wheel so the drop in the tie rod was centered under the oil pan. by doing that the pan slides right out. for any future oil pan gasket replacement peeps
