Tank Full of Old Gas

I have found a truck that is in good enough shape to try and restore. It was parked years ago with a full tank of gas. I am hoping that it is only gas and not a mix of water and gas. But it is not rusted through as it is still holding the gas.
The gas smells like it has turned to varnish. How should I depose of all the old gas?

Hi sturm,
Around here the county has a "hazardous household waste" day at the landfill every couple of months. We can bring anything we deem hazardous for them to dispose of. I would assume all states have some form of that.....but I could be wrong. I'm not sure what else you could do with it. You might also want to try calling any local fuel distributors in your area and see if they deal with waste fuel....or can point you in the right direction.
regards,
bob

I just drained +6 gallons of old gas; I plan to just add a bit here and there for small engine stuff around the house until it's gone

cool, about how much did you add? I'd like to use it up as quickly as possible, but don't want to cause problems.
thanks!

I often burn small amounts in my daily driver. I figure a gallon or less diluted in 18 gallons of fresh gas will be fine. I have even burned premix in my Toyota, but at 80:1 the amount of oil (Amsoil Saber) is pretty small.

If you're determined to dispose of the old gas, call your local city hall for info. on a "hazardous waste day" or a city recommended
disposal site that is available on a daily basis. It's all FREE around here, no charges for residents.
